Hi Everyone,
The past few weeks, I have felt a bit sluggish, unmotivated and tired. I took a few minutes to talk with Coach Dave after CrossFit last week about how I was feeling and here are a couple of things he mentioned.
- Sleep
- Nutrition
Sleep hasn’t been an issue for me recently because I am actually tired.
My nutrition has been less than ok. Dave mentioned I may not be eating enough, (that seemed almost unfathomable,) or lack of eating the right foods, not enough water, and as we know sugar is always a culprit for feeling sluggish. I came home and did a little research, I then prepared a log to jot down what I eat for a few days. The first two days of my log pretty much summed it up.
Logging the food spoke for itself, sugar (and I may have missed a few little candies) and yep, Dave guessed it- there is a good chance I am not eating enough- or enough of the right foods.
We all get off course at times the key is whether we can successfully “re-set” our healthy eating habits. This isn’t the first time I have hit the “re-set” button. Here are a 4 Simple TIPS for Re-setting your Healthy Eating Habits:
1.Start Fresh- Write it Down: Get a real idea of what you are putting in your body and how much. I am not very detailed in my log but the more detail the more data you have to work with when you make adjustments.
2.Only Purchase Practical Items you can Eat: Keep it Simple:
3.Avoid Temptation by Preparing in Advance:This is a generic list but will get me going for the first week.
Is time an issue? If you don’t have time to hand prepare all of your snacks you can order Paleo Snacks from a variety of vendors.
4.Drink Water: I was drinking zero H2O, wine and coffee are apparently not a replacement.
Keep your focus on being healthy, even if you are trying to loose weight- the weight loss will come.
I have struggled with the diet part of healthy living for years, and for the past 8 months been working on a move toward a Paleo diet. This has been a battle because I can’t eat nuts and a lot of the Paleo foods include a nut base. I have had to adapt using a non-dairy organic milk, I have also supplemented with oatmeal, quinoa and sweet potatoes which technically are probably not paleo. The point is that you have to do what works for you, and if you focus on the basics of vegetables, protein and fruits and eliminate processed foods you are likely to see immediate results.
Question of the Day:
Can you hit the reset button? – What can you do this week to increase your nutritional health?
